Brief History of Municipality of Rizal

On December 26, 1912, Vice-Governor Newton signed the act and simultaneously issued a proclamation creating the town of RIZAL. The town was named after Doc. Jose Rizal. On January 1, 1913, Don Julian Paraiso took his oath as the first Alcalde of the Municipality.

In 1917 and 1918, the Bureau of Land surveyed the Municipality into homestead and residential lots. In 1930, Barangay Paco Roman became a barrio through the leadership of the late Mr. Florentino Castelo, separating it from Barangay Estrella. Sometime in 1940, General Luna became a barrio of which the area was taken from barangay Canaan and in 1954 Villa Paraiso was created into a barrio separating it from Barangay Canaan and was named in honor of late Mayor Gaudencio V. Paraiso.

In 1963, Villa Paraiso was renamed Barangay Pag-asa which is a part of Barangay Agbanawag. In January 1968, Barangay Casilagan became a barrio through Res. No. 2 of the Provincial Board on January 3, 1968, formerly known as sitio of Canaan, which was bisected by the Bulalakay Creek, and it was divided into two barrios known as Canaan Este and Canaan Weste. On July 20, 1970, Sanggunian Panlalawigan passed Resolution No. 220 approving the creation of Barangay Maligaya under R.A. No. 3590, the area to be taken from the Barangay Bicos. And on July 12, 1971, then the Provincial Board Resolution No. 231, Villa Labrador became a Barrio separating it from Villa Paraiso.

Mayor

Mayor Trina Andres Municipal Mayor

Young. This is how people usually describe the Municipal Mayor of Rizal. One of the few millennial mayors in the country. She puts her heart into helping others even before she became a Mayor.

Mayor Trina, the first woman to be elected as mayor of Rizal, was able to fulfill her duties and responsibilities at a young age. During the pandemic, she prioritized the welfare and protection of her people. She implemented lockdown and post-mortem antigen testing.

She braved the most challenging fight as COVID-19 mayor and introduced out-of-the-box, scientific, data-based solutions in winning the town’s battle against COVID-19 such as but not limited to the distribution in five waves of food packs to all quarantined households, free antigen, and RT-PCR testing in both laboratory and mobile settings, institutionalization of the COVID Action Team, distribution of COVID recovery package to COVID-19 survivors and relatives of COVID-19 casualties, revamping of municipal evacuation centers to TTMFs, and many others.

During her time as Mayor, the municipality received the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance in 2019 and 2020-2022 which now places our humble town on a pedestal in the Hall of Fame. The municipality has its reputation of being child-friendly due to Mayor Trina’s astounding heart for the children, and the first municipality in Nueva Ecija to be drug-cleared.

Under the leadership of this young, promising, and visionary leader, our municipality continues to experience progress and development. As social media enthusiasts say it, “Papunta pa lang tayo sa exciting part.” Thanks to this woman’s service, our lifetime as Rizalenos has indeed become more exciting.

The Champion of the Kabataang Rizaleño, an advocate of women empowerment, an epitome of proactive leadership and inclusive government, and a beacon of HOPE that shines through a caring and loving heart, Mayor Hanna Katrina L. Andres.
